Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurates four key development projects in Killa, Gomati district, highlighting education, healthcare, sports infrastructure, tribal welfare, and inclusive growth as pillars of a self-reliant and developed Tripura.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday inaugurated four major development projects at Atharobhola in Killa Block of Gomati district, reiterating that education, healthcare, and sports are the three foundational pillars on which a self-reliant and developed Tripura is being built.

Addressing a large public gathering, the Chief Minister said Tripura, a peaceful and green state in Northeast India, is steadily moving towards inclusive and balanced development. He underlined that the state government’s primary objective is to ensure that the benefits of development reach every corner of the state, including remote and tribal-dominated regions.

Among the key projects inaugurated was a modern AstroTurf synthetic football mini stadium constructed at a cost of ₹5.36 crore. Dr. Saha said the stadium would open new opportunities for nurturing sports talent in the region, particularly among local youth and school students. He noted that sports infrastructure not only promotes physical fitness but also instils discipline and confidence among young people.

The Chief Minister stressed that sustainable development is impossible without education and that ensuring women’s participation in education remains a top government priority. He stated that the holistic development of tribal communities is essential for the real progress of both the state and the nation. Without empowering indigenous populations through education and skill development, inclusive growth cannot be achieved, he added.

Highlighting the importance of safe accommodation for students, Dr. Saha said the absence of proper hostel facilities often negatively impacts students’ academic lives. To address this issue, the state government has been constructing hostels in various schools. In Killa Block, two 50-seat girls’ hostels have been constructed at Dasharath Deb Memorial English Medium Model School and Devta Mura High School (South Baramura VC) at a total cost of ₹5.20 crore. These hostels are expected to significantly improve access to education for tribal girls.

Speaking on the state’s past challenges, the Chief Minister said that tribal society had earlier been misled and pushed towards violence, resulting in prolonged unrest and suffering. The present government, he said, has successfully brought the state back into the mainstream of development by restoring peace and focusing on welfare-oriented governance.

On healthcare, Dr. Saha remarked that a healthy society is the foundation of a developed society. In line with this vision, a 10-bed Primary Health Centre has been constructed at Nitabazar under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund, with an investment of ₹5.40 crore. The facility will provide quality primary healthcare services near people’s homes, reducing the need for villagers to travel long distances for basic medical treatment.

The Chief Minister said these initiatives demonstrate that the government believes not just in making promises but in delivering results on the ground. He described Killa as no longer merely a geographic area but a shining example of development driven by sports, education, and healthcare.

Dr. Saha also spoke about the state government’s initiatives to promote traditional culture, including the preservation and promotion of Kirtan. Referring to the Union Budget recently presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said the budget reflects the spirit of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and will significantly benefit tribal and marginalised communities.

He further highlighted infrastructure achievements, stating that six new national highways have been constructed in Tripura and railway connectivity has improved substantially. Several new projects and schemes were approved in a recent cabinet meeting. He announced an additional holiday for Garia Puja and informed that proposals have been sent to the central government for setting up 15 more Eklavya Model Residential Schools in the state.

Dr. Saha also noted that between 2019 and 2024, several distinguished personalities from tribal communities have been honoured with the Padma Shri award. He reaffirmed that the government’s ultimate goal is to build a “Developed Tripura” by 2047.

Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s leadership, Tripura has witnessed significant improvements in education, health, and sports infrastructure. He said the inauguration of the four projects would greatly benefit the local population.

The programme was attended by Sports Minister Tinku Roy, MLA Rampada Jamatia, senior administrative officials, and representatives from various departments. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a friendly football match and a cultural Kirtan programme organised on the occasion.
