Modernization of four major Tripura railway stations—Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur—is progressing fast under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. MP Biplab Deb highlighted the works, including new foot overbridges, lifts, waiting halls, and modern facilities, aimed at boosting connectivity and passenger comfort across the state.
West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has highlighted the rapid progress of modernization works at four major railway stations in Tripura under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Railways aimed at upgrading and modernizing railway infrastructure across India. The stations identified under this scheme in Tripura are Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur, which are all witnessing significant development to improve passenger convenience and connectivity.
In response to a question raised by Deb in the Lok Sabha, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared details of the ongoing works. Following this, Deb took to social media to emphasize how railway infrastructure investment has seen a substantial increase under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to Deb, compared to the last UPA government, investments in railway station development have gone up by nearly 6.5 times. He said this unprecedented rise reflects the government’s long-term vision of providing modern facilities, upgraded services, and enhanced passenger comfort across the country’s railway network.
Progress at Agartala Station
Agartala, being the state capital’s primary railway hub, has been a major focus under the modernization scheme. Deb informed that the installation of lifts at the station has already been completed, providing easier accessibility for passengers, especially senior citizens and people with disabilities.
In addition, works for a 12-metre foot overbridge and a new station building are currently underway. Once completed, these upgrades will significantly reduce congestion, improve passenger movement between platforms, and provide a modern look to the station, aligning it with national standards of upgraded railway hubs.
Dharmanagar Station Developments
At Dharmanagar, which is among the busiest stations in North Tripura, several key works have already been completed. These include platform shelters, approach roads, and boundary walls. Construction work for improving the circulating area, a 12-metre foot overbridge, and installation of an escalator has also commenced.
These facilities are expected to ease the travel experience for daily commuters as well as long-distance passengers, making the station more passenger-friendly and well-equipped to handle growing footfall.
Modernization of Kumarghat Station
Kumarghat station is also seeing noticeable improvements. Work has begun on a 12-metre foot overbridge, which will improve passenger safety and movement across platforms. In addition, upgradation of the circulating area, approach road, waiting hall, and platform shelters are underway.
Once completed, these additions will not only enhance the station’s operational efficiency but also offer more comfort to passengers, aligning with the scheme’s objective of modernizing regional railway hubs.
Udaipur Station Upgrades
At Udaipur, popularly known as the city of lakes and an important pilgrimage destination, modernization works are progressing steadily. The ongoing projects include the construction of a 12-metre foot overbridge, a waiting hall, and modernized toilet facilities.
Given Udaipur’s cultural and tourism significance, the upgrades will directly benefit both local commuters and visiting tourists, offering them improved facilities and a more welcoming travel environment.
A Boost for Connectivity and Development
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’s implementation in Tripura is expected to bring a transformative change in the state’s railway infrastructure. By focusing on passenger-centric developments such as accessibility, safety, and comfort, these projects are designed to ensure that the railways not only serve as a mode of transport but also as a gateway to economic and social development.

Highlighting the broader vision, Deb reiterated that these works are part of a larger national effort to integrate remote regions like the Northeast more effectively with the rest of India. Improved railway stations will not only boost connectivity but also facilitate trade, tourism, and regional development.
Once the projects at Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur are fully completed, Tripura will have modern, well-equipped stations capable of meeting the demands of rising passenger traffic, while reflecting India’s commitment to developing world-class railway infrastructure.
