Fresh clashes have erupted in Syria’s southern province of Sweida after interior authorities accused local Druze armed factions of violating a ceasefire deal by attacking security positions. The government claims the groups are pursuing personal agendas and dragging the region into chaos. Multiple security sites were targeted across various fronts as forces responded to restore order.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported renewed fighting on Tal Hadid hill, where government troops launched a counterattack after Druze fighters had seized the area. At least three security personnel were killed and 10 others injured, while one Druze fighter also died. The observatory confirmed that withdrawal orders had been issued to the Druze groups. Tal Hadid holds tactical importance due to its elevation and access to roads linking western Sweida. Earlier, a ceasefire was brokered on July 19 by interim leader Ahmad al-Shara, aiming to reduce violence after weeks of sectarian unrest and external strikes.
