PM Modi urged Gen Z to lead India towards Viksit Bharat 2047 by staying away from drugs during the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan. He emphasized youth power, creativity, rehabilitation, awareness, and collective responsibility for a drug-free India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday delivered a powerful message to the country’s youth, describing Generation Z as India’s “Amrit Peedhi” and urging them to become the driving force behind the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 by staying away from drug addiction. Addressing young people during the launch of the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’, the Prime Minister stressed that India’s future depends on the energy, creativity, innovation, and talent of its younger generation.
Speaking to thousands of participants, PM Modi highlighted that the coming two decades will be crucial in shaping the nation’s destiny. He said the youth of today will not only define their own future but also lead India toward becoming a developed nation by 2047. According to him, the country’s aspirations can only be fulfilled when young minds remain focused, healthy, and free from the harmful influence of drugs.
“The country needs your energy, creative imagination and talent. Therefore, for the nation and for your own future, keep yourselves away from drugs,” the Prime Minister said while encouraging the youth to dedicate themselves to nation-building.
PM Modi warned that drug addiction destroys not only an individual’s life but also weakens the nation’s collective strength. He remarked that every young person who falls into addiction represents a lost dream, a lost opportunity, and a setback for India’s progress. The Prime Minister further alleged that hostile forces and anti-national elements exploit drug trafficking as part of broader attempts to weaken countries by targeting their youth.
He stated that profits generated through illegal drug networks often contribute to destructive agendas, making it essential for society to remain united in protecting young people from addiction. Calling for a nationwide movement, he urged every citizen to actively participate in creating a drug-free India.
The Prime Minister announced that the next 100 Sundays would symbolize 100 determined steps toward achieving the goal of a drug-free nation. Various awareness initiatives will be organized across the country, including sports competitions, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programmes, educational campaigns, and community outreach activities aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles among young people.
Recalling the origins of the campaign, PM Modi expressed satisfaction that the initiative was initially launched as a pilot project in Varanasi, also known as Kashi. He noted that the movement combines scientific understanding with India’s rich spiritual traditions and cultural values. The Prime Minister added that over 125 spiritual organisations have joined the mission to spread awareness and support the campaign against substance abuse.
He also referred to the Kashi Declaration, adopted during the Youth Spiritual Summit held in Varanasi in July 2025, describing it as a comprehensive five-year roadmap to build a drug-free India through coordinated efforts involving educational institutions, spiritual organisations, healthcare professionals, and civil society.
Highlighting the importance of rehabilitation, PM Modi urged families not to hide addiction due to social stigma. Instead, he encouraged parents to seek timely medical assistance and professional counselling whenever necessary. He stressed that addiction should be treated as a health issue requiring compassion, support, and expert intervention rather than shame or secrecy.
The Prime Minister advised parents to maintain open communication with their children and remain alert to behavioural changes such as isolation, frequent late nights, unusual financial demands, or sudden shifts in personality, which may indicate substance abuse. Early identification and timely intervention, he said, can save countless young lives.

Addressing educators, PM Modi appealed to professors, teachers, and educational institutions to complement academic learning with regular discussions on the dangers of drug addiction. He emphasized that awareness, education, and emotional support are equally important in protecting students from harmful influences.
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister praised India’s youth for demonstrating growing social awareness and responsibility. He expressed confidence that their commitment to eliminating drug addiction would significantly contribute to achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, making India stronger, healthier, and more prosperous for future generations.
