The US President Donald Trump has ordered the firing of Erika McEntarfer, the Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), following a disappointing jobs report. Trump accused McEntarfer, a Biden appointee, of manipulating data to favour Democrats. The move came after the BLS released its July jobs report, which showed just 73,000 jobs added, far below expectations. The report also revised job numbers for May and June downward by over 250,000.
McEntarfer, appointed by former President Joe Biden in July 2023, was confirmed by the Senate in January 2024 with bipartisan support.
