The release of Sasikumar and Lijomol Jose’s much-anticipated Tamil film Freedom, directed by Sathyasiva and based on a real-life 1995 jail break, has been officially postponed. Produced by Pandiyan Parasuraman, the film’s new release date will be announced soon. It is Tamil cinema’s first prison break drama.

In a much-anticipated development that has left fans and cinema enthusiasts disappointed, the release of the Tamil film Freedom, starring Sasikumar and Lijomol Jose, has officially been postponed. Originally slated for release on July 10, 2025, the makers confirmed the delay in an official announcement made through social media on Thursday.

Freedom, directed by Sathiya Siva and produced by Pandiyan Parasuraman under the banner of Vijaya Ganapathy Pictures, is a gripping prison escape drama inspired by a real-life incident that occurred in 1995. The plot revolves around a daring jail break by refugees who were wrongfully imprisoned in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The film explores their emotional trauma and struggle for justice, highlighting themes of freedom, identity, and human rights.

The production house issued a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, saying:

“The film Freedom, starring Sasikumar and Lijomol, directed by Sathiya Siva and produced by Vijaya Ganapathy Pictures’ Pandiyan Parasuraman, was initially scheduled for release on 10th July 2025. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the release has been postponed. A new release date will be announced soon.”

The announcement comes as a blow to fans who have been eagerly waiting to see Sasikumar in a unique role. Known for his intense and grounded performances, Sasikumar plays the lead character who navigates the complex emotions and challenges within the jail break scenario. Actress Lijomol Jose, acclaimed for her powerful roles in socially relevant films, plays a pivotal role in the narrative.

Adding to the anticipation around the film is the fact that Freedom is being touted as Tamil cinema’s first-ever full-fledged jail break film, a genre that has rarely been explored in the industry. The story is not just a prison escape drama but a deeply emotional account of people incarcerated without justice, fighting for their dignity and survival.

The ensemble cast includes seasoned and emerging talents such as Malavika Avinash, Boss Venkat, Ramesh Kanna, Sudev Nair, and Boys Manikandan, all of whom bring depth to the storyline. The film’s music is composed by Ghibran, known for his emotionally evocative scores, while the cinematography is handled by N. S. Uthayakumar. Srikanth N. B. is in charge of editing, and C. Uthayakumar oversees the art direction.

The soundtrack of Freedom features lyrics by Snehan, Mohan Raja, and Arun Bharathi, with action sequences choreographed by T. Ramesh, Don Ashok, and Danger Mani—promising high-intensity scenes that add to the suspenseful and emotional tone of the film.

While no new release date has been confirmed yet, sources close to the production team have hinted that it could be pushed to late August or early September, depending on post-production schedules and market conditions.
