Chief Minister Nitish Kumar flags off 600 new police vehicles in Bihar to combat rising crime. With 520 four-wheelers and 98 two-wheelers, the fleet aims to improve law enforcement response, mobility, and public safety across the state. The move comes amid growing concerns ahead of Bihar Assembly elections.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday flagged off a fleet of 600 new police vehicles from his official residence at 1, Anne Marg, Patna. This major initiative comes at a critical time when the state is witnessing a rise in violent crime incidents, especially murders and sexual assaults, triggering widespread concern among citizens.
The newly inducted fleet consists of 520 four-wheelers and 98 two-wheelers, which will be deployed across both urban and rural areas of the state to increase the mobility and operational efficiency of the Bihar Police. The ceremony began with Director General of Police Vinay Kumar welcoming CM Nitish Kumar with a sapling—symbolizing a commitment to environmental responsibility and goodwill—before the official flag-off event commenced.
Prior to the flag-off, CM Kumar took the time to inspect the vehicles personally and interacted with senior police officials to understand the vehicle deployment strategy and how they would be integrated into the state’s policing framework.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of upgrading police capabilities in the face of growing challenges to law and order. “The addition of these vehicles will significantly increase the efficiency of the police force in Bihar. This move will ensure better law and order management and enable faster investigation and arrest in criminal cases,” said Nitish Kumar.
The vehicles are expected to drastically reduce response times for emergency calls, aid in faster investigation procedures, and provide more robust patrolling—especially in crime-prone and remote areas of Bihar.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to modernize the police force and improve law enforcement infrastructure ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The government aims to restore public confidence in the state’s law enforcement agencies, especially amid increasing cases of violent crime.
According to official data released by the Bihar Police, the state recorded 232 murders in 2024. Disturbingly, 2025 has already seen 233 murder cases reported in just the first half of the year, with shootouts being reported almost daily. These statistics underline the urgent need for increased police mobility and stronger presence on the ground.
Furthermore, 490 rape and gang-rape cases have been registered across various police stations in Bihar in just the first five months of 2025. These alarming figures have highlighted the pressing need for effective policing and quicker response systems.
The deployment of the new fleet aims to address these issues head-on by ensuring quicker response times and improved coordination among police units. The vehicles will also help in routine patrolling, surveillance operations, and emergency response activities—making law enforcement more visible and accessible to the people of Bihar.

The symbolic and strategic importance of this move sends a clear message that the state government is committed to maintaining law and order and protecting its citizens. With Bihar heading towards elections, this initiative not only strengthens the administrative machinery but also serves as a reassurance to the public that their safety remains a top priority.
