Delhi Police detained 17 illegal Bangladeshi migrants, including minors and a newborn, during a major crackdown in Vasant Kunj. The operation, led by Vasant Kunj South Police, initiated deportation proceedings in coordination with FRRO. This drive is part of a larger campaign targeting illegal immigrants in Delhi.

In a decisive move against illegal immigration, Delhi Police detained 17 Bangladeshi nationals residing unlawfully in the Vasant Kunj area of the national capital. The operation, part of an ongoing campaign to identify and deport illegal immigrants, was carried out by a specialized team from Vasant Kunj South Police Station under the South-West District.

The operation was spearheaded by Inspector Arvind Pratap Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Vasant Kunj South, under the overall supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Garima Tiwari. The well-coordinated effort involved multiple officers including Inspector Ratan Singh, Sub-Inspector Upender Singh, Women Police Sub-Inspector Preeti, ASIs Padam and Raj Kumar, Head Constables Nemi Chand, Pawan, Ravit, Anil, and Constables Anup, Dharmender, and W/Ct. Sonu.

Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the police launched a door-to-door verification drive in the area. This intelligence-led operation helped the officers identify the group of undocumented migrants. The detainees included several women and eight minors, one of whom was a newborn delivered at Safdarjung Hospital during the detention process. The woman had gone into labour while being taken into custody, and the police immediately arranged for her admission to the hospital, where she gave birth to a baby boy.

According to police officials, the Bangladeshi nationals were staying in the area without valid identification or immigration documents. They reportedly entered India through unguarded jungle routes and by boarding express trains, bypassing formal immigration checks. Most of them were from Tellipara village under Nageshwari Police Station in the Kurigram district of Bangladesh.

The detained individuals, including the newborn, were transferred to the detention centre at PP Badola, PS Mahindra Park, pending deportation. The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) has been actively coordinating with the police to initiate legal deportation procedures.

Police sources confirmed that all legal processes were followed meticulously before the transfer of the detainees to the detention centre. Deportation orders have already been issued, and arrangements are being made to repatriate them to Bangladesh.

This operation is part of a broader campaign launched by the Delhi Police to identify unauthorised foreign nationals residing illegally in the city, particularly those from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh. Over recent months, Delhi Police has increased surveillance in vulnerable areas suspected of harbouring undocumented migrants.

ACP Garima Tiwari emphasized that such drives are crucial not only for maintaining law and order but also for national security. She added that the police will continue their targeted efforts to prevent illegal infiltration and take necessary legal action against those found residing in India without valid permits.

The presence of foreign nationals without proper documentation is a matter of growing concern for the authorities, particularly in urban centres like Delhi, where illegal settlements often go unnoticed. The South-West District Police’s proactive approach in this matter has drawn attention to the urgent need for regular and systematic verification of tenants, especially in densely populated localities.

This crackdown sends a clear message that Delhi Police remains committed to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring that illegal entrants are swiftly identified and deported in accordance with legal procedures.
