Assam continues to reel under severe floods on the fifth day today. Over five lakh people are now reeling under the deluge across 21 districts.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi today took stock flood situation in the state and assured Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, full support from the Central government for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The Prime Minister also spoke to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and took stock of the flood situation in the State. He also assured all possible assistance from centre in dealing with the flood menace in Manipur.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited Silchar in Cachar district to take stock and assess the flood situation. He visited several relief camps and interacted with the people and assured goverment support for rehabilitation. The Chief Minister directed District Commissioners to monitor rescue and relief operations in their districts.
        The flood has also inundated 53 of 233 camps of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.  Meanwhile, NF Railway has cancelled  Silchar – Agartala Express, Silchar -Vangaichungpao passenger train and Silchar-New Delhi express due to flooded railway track.
The evacuation mission at North Sikkim will resume tomorrow morning. Today, after evacuating 34 persons , rescue mission had to stop due to the inclement weather. But Indian Army’s 112 brigade established a vital foot route  between Lachen and Chaten , enabling airlifting of the stranded tourists from Chaten tomorrow. Mangan district administration informed that 130 to 150 tourists are still stranded at Lachen. There is no network connection at Lachen  but they are all safe . Efforts are being made to restore the mobile connectivity. The Sikkim government has officially declared the situation at North Sikkim as a Disaster. The tourism department has issued advisory for tourists that roads leading to Lachen and Lachung are temporarily closed due to landslides but there is no problem in visiting other places .  Governor  Om Prakash Mathur visited the Singhtam today to monitor the situation and urged the local people to remain vigilant and also instructed the administration to provide all support to them.
