In Bihar, Superintendent of Shri Krishna Medical College & Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, Dr. Kumari Vibha, has been suspended for dereliction of duty in the minor girl rape and murder case. Deputy Superintendent of Patna Medical College and Hospital, SKMCH Patna Dr. Abhijit Singh has also been removed from his post on similar charges of failing to provide timely treatment to the injured rape victim.The victim’s death and the alleged apathy of on-duty doctors at government hospitals, specifically SKMCH Muzaffarpur and PMCH Patna, have sparked widespread protests across the state.The victim succumbed to her injuries just hours after her treatment commenced at PMCH after family struggle. Her family members had alleged that authorities meted out “high-handedness” during a crucial period when they arrived at the hospitals.The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women had taken suo motu cognizance of the case, serving notices to the Bihar government regarding the alleged delay in providing treatment facilities to the victim.
