Genuine teachers affected by the WBSSC recruitment scam have appealed to senior police officials to help arrange a meeting with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, demanding justice and job reinstatement.

In the ongoing fallout from the Supreme Court’s April verdict on the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scam, a group of “untainted” or genuine teachers who lost their jobs have written to top police officials seeking help to arrange a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

These teachers were among the 25,753 candidates whose appointments in state-run schools were annulled after the Supreme Court upheld a Calcutta High Court order, citing the inability of the WBSSC and the state government to distinguish between tainted and untainted candidates. While the court found serious irregularities in the recruitment process, many who secured jobs fairly have been caught in the crossfire.

In a desperate move on Monday, the affected teachers sent formal letters to several senior police officials, including Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, ADG (Law & Order) Javed Shamim, Joint Commissioner (Headquarters) Meeraj Khalid, and Howrah Police Commissioner Pravin Kumar Tripathi. The request is clear — help us meet the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister’s office, located on the 14th floor of the state secretariat ‘Nabanna’, falls under the jurisdiction of Howrah City Police. The protesting teachers hope that the senior officers can facilitate a long-overdue discussion with Banerjee to explore solutions.

“We have repeatedly sought appointments with the Chief Minister and Education Minister Bratya Basu to discuss our plight and possible remedies, but we’ve received no response. Now, we’ve turned to the police in hope,” said one of the protesting teachers.

The teachers fear that if this final appeal is also ignored, they may be forced to intensify their agitation, possibly staging a “March to Nabanna” rally to draw attention to their demand.

Their central demand remains unchanged: the WBSSC and the state government must urgently publish a clear list segregating the “untainted” candidates from those who allegedly secured jobs through illegal payments. “Why should we suffer because some people used unethical means to get jobs?” asked another teacher.

The state government and WBSSC have filed review petitions in the Supreme Court, hoping for reconsideration. However, until a resolution emerges, thousands of genuine candidates remain in limbo, losing not only their jobs but also their trust in the system.

As the issue snowballs into a political and administrative crisis, the voices of these jobless yet qualified teachers continue to seek justice — not through protest alone, but now through formal appeals for dialogue and accountability.
