On Tuesday Tripura Cabinet decided to give 5 per cent Dearness Allowance to the employees. The DA will come to effect from July 1, 2022, said, Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs announced in a press conference.

The cabinet also resolved that the 5 per cent Dearness Relief would also be extended to the pensioners and family .
For payment of the 5 per cent DA and DR the annual expenditure of the state government would be Rs. 523 crore.
“The state government needs funds of Rs. 104.76 crore for providing 1 percent DA. As the cabinet decided to provide 5 per cent DA, the annual expenditure will be Rs. 523.80 crore,” Chowdhury.
The decision came at a time when the employees of the state government were eagerly waiting for the decision. The announcement came before the Durga puja which meant the people having the DA as well as arrears in their kitty would have enhanced buying capacity and the money would come to the market.
Employees in their first reactions expressed satisfaction but also did not forget to mention that still a huge gap would remain with the central government employees.
Earlier, soon after the BJP and IPFT government came to power in the first cabinet itself 3 per cent DA was announced for the employees. Nevertheless, the demand for the rest of the pending DA was always there and the demand started gaining momentum in recent time. The BJP-IPFT government had time and again assured that the DA would be released in time as ostensibly the ruling dispensation kept the ensuing assembly elections in mind.
