ISRO Chief at CAU: 10 Satellites Ensuring India’s Safety and Security Round-the-Clock. Dr. V. Narayanan reveals that ten satellites work 24/7 for strategic purposes, securing India’s coastline and vital sectors.

As many as ten satellites are continuously operating round-the-clock for strategic purposes, ensuring the safety and security of the nation, said ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan. Addressing the 5th Convocation ceremony of the Central Agricultural University (CAU) at Lembucherra, he stressed the critical role of satellite technology in protecting the country, particularly in monitoring India’s vast 7,000 km coastline. “Without satellite and drone technology, achieving comprehensive security would be impossible,” he stated.

Dr. Narayanan highlighted that ISRO’s satellites are not only pivotal for national security but also serve various civilian sectors, including agriculture, tele-education, telemedicine, television broadcasting, weather forecasting, environmental monitoring, food production, and disaster management. He pointed out that, in the past, natural disasters led to thousands of fatalities, but advancements in satellite technology have significantly reduced such casualties.

Underscoring India’s achievements in space technology, Dr. Narayanan noted that the country leads in nine areas within the space sector. One of the most remarkable accomplishments was the Chandrayaan-1 mission, which discovered evidence of water molecules on the Moon’s surface, making India the first country to achieve this feat. He further shared that India has successfully launched 433 satellites for 34 countries from its soil.

Dr. Narayanan also highlighted India’s significant role in building satellites for G-20 countries to monitor climate change and other critical areas. He announced that India and the United States are collaborating to develop the world’s most advanced and expensive earth-imaging satellite, which will be launched from India.

“By the time India celebrates 100 years of independence, the country will be a leader in all fields and a significant contributor to global progress”.

Reflecting on India’s space journey, he noted that before 1975, the country had no satellite technology and lagged 70 years behind advanced nations. However, the rapid progress since then has transformed India into a global leader in space exploration. He predicted that by the time India celebrates 100 years of independence, the country will be a leader in all fields and a significant contributor to global progress.

Dr. Narayanan also spoke about India’s transformation in agriculture. In the 1950s and 1960s, the country produced only 54 million tons of food and relied on imports. Today, India produces over 250 million tons of food, exporting surplus to various countries. The nation has also emerged as a leader in electricity generation and milk production, with significant achievements in producing rice, wheat, maize, horticultural crops, pulses, oilseeds, and cash crops.

He also noted that the country’s development in various sectors has led to a significant increase in life expectancy from 32 to 72 years and a sharp decline in child and maternal mortality rates.

Dr. Narayanan announced that around 100 science students from each of the eight northeastern states would be given the opportunity to visit the ISRO center in Bengaluru. This initiative aims to foster curiosity and enhance awareness of space technology among young minds.
