INDIAN FORCES RESPONDING TO CEASEFIRE VIOLATIONS.THE INDIAN ARMY, MISRI ADDED, HAS BEEN INSTRUCTED TO TAKE FIRM MEASURES TO COUNTER ANY INCURSION.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Saturday addressed the media, condemning the ceasefire violations by the Pakistani army despite a truce agreement announced just a few hours earlier. Misri affirmed that the Indian armed forces are responding adequately to the provocations, stressing that the government has taken a serious view of Pakistan’s actions.

The Agreement and the Violation

The agreement to halt ongoing hostilities, reached earlier in the evening, was intended to put an end to the escalation seen in recent days. However, shortly after the agreement came into effect, there were multiple instances of violations by the Pakistani army. Reports of loud explosions were heard in Srinagar, while border sectors including Akhnoor, Mendhar, R.S. Pura, Chamb, Bhimber, and Gurez witnessed ceasefire breaches.

Foreign Secretary Misri labeled these actions a “breach of understanding” and noted that the army is closely monitoring the situation. “This aggression is highly condemnable, and Pakistan is responsible for it. We believe that Pakistan must understand the gravity of the situation and take immediate and appropriate action to stop this aggression,” he said. The Indian Army, Misri added, has been instructed to take firm measures to counter any incursion.

Ground Reality: Ceasefire Breached

The ceasefire agreement, effective from 5 p.m. on Saturday, was intended to cover land, air, and sea operations. Yet, within hours, the truce appeared shattered. Loud blasts were reported in Srinagar, with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressing his frustration on social media. He posted on X (formerly Twitter): “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar. This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up.”

In addition to shelling, sightings of drones were reported in Srinagar’s Badami Bagh Cantonment area, where the headquarters of the Army’s 15th Corps is located. One of the drones was brought down, and the area witnessed a blackout following the explosions. Similar blackouts were reported in Kathua and Baramulla districts, with another drone reportedly shot down in Baramulla town.

Tensions Across the Border

Ceasefire violations were also reported from the Arnia sector in the Samba district, with air raid sirens echoing through Akhnoor and Baramulla towns. The Indian Army remained on high alert, with retaliatory actions already underway.

Context: Operation Sindoor and Ceasefire Hopes

Earlier, India had successfully conducted anti-terror ‘Operation Sindoor’, which saw the destruction of nine terror platforms in Pakistan and damage to over a dozen Pakistani air bases. Following this decisive operation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, commending the armed forces for their resolute actions.

The announcement of the ceasefire had sparked celebrations, especially in border areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan. People rejoiced at the perceived victory, chanting slogans of “Bharat Mata ki Jai”.

Moving Forward

Despite the breach, India remains committed to maintaining peace while safeguarding its borders. The government has reiterated its stance that while the Indian Army is fully prepared to defend the nation, Pakistan must honor the commitment to the ceasefire. The current situation remains tense, with the armed forces maintaining a vigilant watch.

The international community continues to observe the developments closely, with hopes that diplomatic channels will prevail over military confrontations.
