TPCC Slams BJP Over Dalit Discrimination and Waqf Bill

Must Read

The TPCC Minority Department, led by Ashish Kumar Saha and Sudip Roy Barman, has called for united action against the BJP’s alleged attacks on constitutional rights and minority protections. The Congress vows to oppose the Waqf Amendment Bill and defend democratic values through statewide protests and awareness campaigns in Tripura.

The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Minority Department convened a crucial meeting on Saturday at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Agartala. The session, presided over by TPCC President Ashish Kumar Saha, was attended by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and other key leaders of the Minority Department, showcasing the party’s united front on pressing constitutional and minority rights issues.

Addressing the gathering, Ashish Kumar Saha expressed grave concern over what he termed as the “BJP’s continuous attacks on the Constitution.” He alleged that the ruling party is systematically attempting to erode the fundamental rights enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Referring to the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill, Saha emphasized its potential to disrupt the autonomy of Waqf properties and communities, calling for its immediate withdrawal.

“This is not just a minority issue—it’s a constitutional crisis. The Congress will stand at the forefront in Tripura to resist such regressive moves,” Saha declared, urging for a united and proactive stance from civil society and political allies alike.

Adding weight to the concerns, Sudip Roy Barman, a senior Congress leader and legislator, condemned the BJP for pushing what he described as a monopolistic and anti-Constitutional agenda. Barman emphasized that the Congress party has always been a vigilant guardian of constitutional values and would continue its role as a defender of democratic rights.

Barman also brought attention to a recent incident in Rajasthan, where a BJP leader conducted a purification ritual after Dalit Congress leader Tikaram Jully visited the Ram temple. “This is nothing short of casteist discrimination and blatant anti-Dalit behavior. It is unacceptable in a democratic society,” Barman said, underscoring the broader social implications of the BJP’s actions.

The Congress leaders collectively declared that they would intensify their protests against the Waqf Amendment Bill across the state. Protest programs and public awareness campaigns will soon be launched to mobilize support and educate citizens about the potential dangers posed by the bill and other constitutional threats.

The TPCC Minority Department’s call for unity marks a renewed push to consolidate opposition voices in Tripura, aiming to protect the democratic fabric and ensure equal rights for all citizens regardless of caste, creed, or religion.
