In Imphal, Manipur, hundreds of devotees gathered at the MBC Centre Church to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, a pivotal event in the Christian faith that symbolizes sacrifice, forgiveness, and redemption.
Marking this sacred day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a heartfelt message on social media. He reflected on the profound sacrifice of Jesus Christ, urging people to embrace kindness, compassion, and generosity. “On Good Friday, we remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This day inspires us to cherish kindness, compassion and always be large-hearted. May the spirit of peace and togetherness always prevail,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
In Nagaland, where Christianity is the predominant faith, Good Friday was observed with deep reverence. Special prayer services and fasting were held across the state. In Kohima, Catholic congregations participated in processions, carrying wooden crosses through the streets in remembrance of Christ’s journey to Calvary.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio extended a solemn message of faith and hope to the people. “His selfless act of love offers us forgiveness, unmerited grace, and the hope of new and eternal life for all who believe in Him,” he stated, calling on citizens to reflect on the true essence of Good Friday.
Meanwhile, in the union territory of Puducherry, thousands of Christians participated in Way of the Cross processions and special prayer gatherings at prominent churches. Devotees walked in silence, reenacting the final journey of Jesus Christ as a symbol of faith, sacrifice, and salvation.
