The Rajya Sabha is holding a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply to the motion in the Upper House at around 4 PM today.

Earlier, participating in the discussion, BJP member Devendra Pratap Singh said the government has taken several measures for the welfare of farmers by ensuring a minimum support price for their agricultural produce and for the welfare of SCs and STs communities. Mr. Singh hit out at opposition leaders for their alleged insulting comments in the media against the president after her speech in Parliament.

Taking part in the debate, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Deve Gowda said the welfare of the poor, women, and farmers is the top priority of the government. He also lauded the budgetary allocations made for sectors like agriculture, health, and education in the Union Budget this year.

Rajiv Shukla of Congress raised the issue of unemployment. He said the manufacturing sector is still undergoing a labour crisis after the covid pandemic. Jaya Bachchan of Samajwadi Party, Sanjeev Arora of AAP, Abdul Wahab of IUML, and Ramji of BSP also participated in the debate. The discussion is underway.
