The state’s healthcare sector has seen remarkable advancements, making complex surgeries, including neurosurgeries, possible within the state itself. Furthermore, after successfully introducing kidney transplants, initiatives are underway to facilitate liver and other organ transplants. These steps are expected to enhance the quality of healthcare services in the coming days.
Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha emphasized these developments while inaugurating the new academic building and hostel of the North-East Institute of Nursing Science near Amtali Bypass today. Addressing the gathering, he reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure. He highlighted that Tripura now boasts two medical colleges, a dental college, a nursing college, and several other healthcare education institutions, marking significant progress in the sector.
The Chief Minister underlined the crucial role of nurses in ensuring quality healthcare. He stressed that the reputation of a medical facility largely depends on the efficiency and compassion of its nursing staff. Therefore, fostering a strong, empathetic bond between nurses, patients, and their families is essential. He also acknowledged that many young professionals from the state are excelling in nursing services across India and abroad. Expressing confidence in the North-East Institute of Nursing Science, he noted that it would produce highly skilled nurses who will contribute significantly to the state’s healthcare system.
Speaking on healthcare infrastructure, the Chief Minister highlighted the establishment of a Super Specialty Block at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, developed with an investment of ₹250 crore. He also noted improvements in trauma centers across district hospitals and the establishment of a Cardiac Care Center in Ambassa. These developments have significantly reduced patient referrals to other states, ensuring better medical facilities within Tripura.
During the event, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder stated that the government’s focus on healthcare infrastructure, along with increasing participation from private institutions, is a positive step forward. He pointed out that citizens can now witness substantial improvements in healthcare facilities compared to previous years.
Padma Shri awardee Chittaranjan Maharaj highlighted that this new nursing institute would provide greater opportunities for the youth to pursue nursing education. He also praised the state government’s efforts in advancing not only the healthcare sector but also various other fields.
Dr. Partha Pratim Saha, Chairman of the North-East Institute of Nursing Science, also addressed the audience. Other dignitaries present at the event included MLA Meena Rani Sarkar and Tripura Central University Registrar Deepak Sharma.
