Student Injured in Clash Between Smugglers and BSF in Rahimpur
A major clash broke out late Sunday night between Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a group of smugglers in Rahimpur, under Boxanagar Police Station. During the altercation, a 16-year-old school student, Imam Hossain, sustained a rubber bullet injury when BSF personnel opened fire, reportedly to control the escalating situation.
The injured student was rushed to the Boxanagar Primary Health Centre (PHC) for immediate medical attention. While his condition remains under observation, the incident has heightened tensions in the area. A substantial contingent of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel has been deployed to maintain law and order.
According to police sources, the clash began when BSF jawans intercepted a group of smugglers allegedly attempting to facilitate the illegal crossing of Bangladeshi nationals into Indian territory. As the smugglers fled toward Rahimpur, BSF personnel pursued them. The situation worsened when villagers, allegedly supporting the smugglers, confronted the BSF, leading to a heated confrontation.
In the ensuing chaos, BSF personnel reportedly opened fire, injuring the student. Local residents alleged that earlier in the day, two BSF jawans vandalized shops in Rahimpur market, sparking widespread anger. This prompted villagers to stage a protest at Boxanagar Police Station, demanding action against the alleged misconduct. Several villagers reportedly sustained injuries during the incident.
The situation remains tense but under control, with authorities monitoring developments closely to prevent further escalation. An inquiry into the incident has been initiated to ascertain the facts and address local grievances.
