Tripura Government made the screening of  the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’tax-free.

The movie that dwelt on the brutal atrocities and persecution that led to the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir in 1990 had already triggered massive response and invited applause from all sections of life across the country.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in his official Facebook handle on Monday announced the  government’s decision which was aimed at encouraging the people to watch the movie to know the truth.

He wrote, “#TheKashmirFilesMovie made by #VivekAgnihotri , depicts the heart wrenching struggle and trauma faced by Kashmiri Hindus. To support his movie and encourage the people of the state to watch it, #Tripura govt has decided to make it tax-free in #Tripura.”

Meanwhile, the Kashmir Files’ has set the box-office on fire with earning Rs 27.15 crore in its first weekend. All the multiplexes in the Tripura capital are witnessing a heavy flow of cinema lovers from day one.

Earlier, the BJP ruled Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana declared the Kashmir Files as Tax free. The film stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi among others.

Soon after the release, the movie entered the limelight and took an opening of Rs 3.25 crore at the box office. According to a report, it jumped to Rs 8.25 crore on its second day. The advance booking occupancy is almost full in theatres as positive word of mouth is helping the film to attract cinema lovers.

A movie review said, “From the very first scene one feels like being a part of the story of The Kashmir Files. It appears as if you are witnessing it in real life.”

Based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, ‘The Kashmir Files’ attempts to show the true picture behind the mass genocide that took place in the Kashmir valley.
