The terminated teachers of 10, 323 revived their movements for reinstatement on Monday even as police had to lathi charge to disperse them from the protest march towards the civil secretariat. The retrenched teachers wanted to meet Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to place their demand.
Though several members of the teachers were injured in the police actions they kept on assembling and sat on by the road side near Circuit House. They demanded that until and unless the Chief Minister met them they would not relent and go home.
“Initially, police assured us that an initiative would be taken so that a delegation couldn meet the Chief Minister. We kept on waiting for over two hours but there was no positive response. When we brought out a rally for Mahakaran abhiyan, the police personnel launched lathi charge on us,” an agitator told the media.
According to the protestors, several persons including women were injured following the police action.
The agitators had crossed two police barricades before reaching the gate of the Civil Secretariat. When they tried to enter the Mahakaran defying police’s barricade, many of them were arrested.
Dalia Das, a leader of the agitators, demanded a permanent solution to their issue. She said, around 7000 to 8000 teachers from across the state joined the protest—while many of them were stuck in police barricades, a group of the protesters managed to reach the Mahakaran gate.
The protestors were camping at Circuit House area till 6.45 pm where Das threatened that the protest would continue unless the Chief Minister gives an appointment to meet them. She also appealed to all the remaining teachers of their group to join the movement.
