In a bid to streamline traffic and create a cleaner environment for pedestrians, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a drive to remove illegal roadside shops across the city. On Thursday, a team led by Assistant Commissioner Sajjad Ali dismantled unauthorized sheds and temporary structures in key areas, including Netaji Chowmani.
Ali explained that these illegal constructions were built on government land for private business purposes. “This is part of AMC’s ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and orderly city, particularly with Durga Puja approaching,” he told reporters.
The action is expected to ease congestion and enhance the city’s appearance, ensuring a better experience for residents and visitors during the upcoming festive season.
