Eminent poet and writer, Manas Debbarman passed away on Monday He was 84 and survived by his wife and two daughters. One of her daughters Tithi Debbarman is also an eminent Rabindra Sangeet artist of the state. He was suffering from old age ailments for quite sometimes and was also admitted in hospital.
Debbarman was science lecturer at MBB College who later became Chairman of the TPSC and also member of the UPSC.
Widely respected for his intellectual faculty and free flowing amiable personality Debbarman was involved in not only literary pursuits but also in theatre and other different other cultural fields.
Soon after the news of his demise known a pall of gloom descended in the state. Social media went abuzz with the news and tribute to the departed soul kept pouring in from the netizens.
Several organizations and individuals also condoled the death of the popular poet cum writer.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed his grief, while the former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and others including the cultural activists visited the residence of late Debbarman to pay their last respect.
CM Dr Saha visited the crematorium during the last rites. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said, “ In the death of Manas Debbarman, the state lost a creative cultural figure and a veteran guardian.”
MP Biplab Kumar Deb also in a social media post expressed his grief at his demise.
Tripura Publishers Guild and several other cultural and literary organizations also issued statements at his demise.
