Opposition leader Manik Sarkar demanded high power inquiry into the alleged murder of CPM cadre Benu Biswas of P.R. Bari PS. Sarkar claimed that Biswas was openly beaten to death at Kamalpur market by some miscreants on February 10 last.
Sarkar who led a party CPM leaders to visit the home of the decsead on Monday, in a letter to the Chief Minister – which was released to the media, the Opposition leader also demanded removal of Arjan Chakma, present OC of P.R. Bari PS immediately because ‘he is alleged to be biased towards the murderers of Benu Biswas’.
“The accused named in the FIR of the case must be booked immediately and impartial legal steps must be taken against them”, demanded Sarkar in his letter adding that a High Power Inquiry Team to undertake investigation of the murder be formed and proper security be provided to the family to avert any more attack in future. The Opposition leader also asked for support to the deceased’s family.
In his letter Sarkar said, “ on February 14, an MLA team comprised of Badal Chowdhury, Dy. Leader of Opposition TLA, Tapan Chakraborty, Ratan Bhowmik, Bhanulal Saha, Sahid Chawdhuri, Sudhan Das and myself visited the house of Benu Biswas at his village Kamalpur to take stock of the incident. The Team was accompanied by CPI(M) Sub-Divisional party leaders including Basudeb Majumder, Ex. MLA and Tapas Datta, Secretary, CPI(M) Belonia Sub-Divisional Committee”.
“Being heard about our visit, several hundred villagers of all section of people assembled there. We interacted with the family members of the victim in front of the villagers”.
Narrating the incident, the Opposition leader said, on February 10 in front of many people, Biswas was beaten to death at open Kamalpur market by some BJP miscreants led by Joydeb Sarkar BJP leader and Member, Rajnagar Panchayat Samity, Manik Sarkar, Jhutan Chakraborty and Naresh Chakraborty. After beating him ruthlessly, the assailants left him on the spot. When he was taken to Hospital, the doctor declared him brought dead. An FIR was lodged mentioning names of the murderers.
The family members alleged that instead of taking legal steps against FIR-named murderers, the police was trying to hush up the case to make the accused acquitted.
“The murderers are freely roaming in the village and threatening them of same consequences if they pursue with the FIR any more. The police are now trying to frame the case in different way to establish that it was not at all a murder”. Sarkar also frowned upon the PHQ statement without final Post Mortem report that Benu Biswas was not murdered.
Deceased’s nephew said his another uncle Bhanu Biswas had earlier mercilessly beaten up by the same gang of the ruling party. He had to take prolonged treatment in the hospital.
