The state government is taking steps to ensure that citizens receive proper medical care. With the patient load increasing steadily at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GBP) and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGM)—the two primary referral hospitals in the state capital—authorities are now considering the construction of an additional government hospital in Agartala.
The proposed hospital, which will be managed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), aims to reduce the patient load on GBP and IGM hospitals, which are currently overwhelmed with daily patient visits. Mayor Dipak Majumder, along with key officials including Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, AMC Commissioner Dr. Sailesh Kumar Yadav, and Director of Health Services Dr. S. Debbarma, surveyed the old Municipal Corporation Office premises at Kashari Patti as a potential site for the new hospital.
Addressing the media, Mayor Majumder highlighted the substantial improvements in the state’s healthcare sector under the current BJP-led government. “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the people of the state have witnessed considerable improvements in health services. The government has given utmost priority to this crucial sector,” Majumder stated.
To alleviate the strain on GBP and IGM hospitals, where thousands of patients seek medical services daily, the government has proposed establishing a new dedicated hospital. After inspecting the old Municipal Corporation office, the Mayor expressed optimism, saying, “If all goes according to plan, the new hospital could become a reality within the next few days.”
“This new facility will provide both primary and secondary healthcare services to the citizens,” he added. Majumder emphasized that this development underscores the state government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and ensuring comprehensive medical services for residents of Agartala and its surrounding areas.
