Nagaland will conduct the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in three Municipal Councils and 36 Town Councils on June 26. This will be the first ever municipal election in the state with 33% reservation for women. The last ULB election was held in 2004 without the reservation of seats for women.

The State has a total of 418 wards spread over 39 municipalities and town Councils, out of which 142 wards are reserved for women. Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung falls under Municipal councils, while the rest are Town councils.

As per the Election schedule,  nominations can be filed from 7th to 11th June, while scrutiny of validly nomination papers will be carried out on June 13.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed on 20th June, with the lists of contesting candidates and polling stations published on the same day. Re-poll, in any, will be conducted on June 28. Counting of votes and declaration of results will be done of 29th of June.

Following the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect within all Municipal and Town Council areas going to poll, and will remain in operation till the completion of elections.            

It may be mentioned that the state cabinet on April 26 gave its administrative approval for conduct of ULB elections in Nagaland, with the election schedule, and specifying the number of wards reserved for women on rotation as mandated by the Nagaland Municipal Act of 2023.
