In the final leg of campaigning before the West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency polls on April 19, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman lambasted the BJP-led government for its failure to deliver on promises made to the people.
Barman, addressing the press from the state headquarters of the party in the capital city, accused the ruling BJP of resorting to empty slogans and misleading the public.
“The slogans like ‘Ab ki Baar 400 Paar’ are mere attempts to deceive the common people from the pressing issues that demand immediate attention,” remarked Roy Barman. He criticized the BJP’s internal discord, alleging that their top leaders are only expecting 200 seats, while extravagantly spending public funds on misleading campaigns.
Barman also took aim at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent rally in Tripura, labelling it as politically charged and lacking substance on critical issues such as unemployment and education.
“The Modi government has done little beyond renaming schemes initiated by the previous UPA government,” Barman asserted, challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to elucidate his administration’s accomplishments during his tenure.
Addressing reporters, TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha urged voters to support the I.N.D.I.A. bloc candidates, emphasizing that the election represents a choice between a democratic future and authoritarian rule.
In a separate development, 20 tribal leaders from TIPRA Motha and BJP constituencies joined the Congress, signalling shifting political allegiances.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a visit to Tripura, underscored his government’s commitment to accelerating development in the Northeast through the ‘Act East Policy,’ replacing the erstwhile ‘Look East Policy’ of the Congress era.
