Two persons were convicted for smuggling ganja and each of them were sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs 1 lakh each. Failure in paying the penalty will attract further imprisonment for six months.
The two convicted ganja smugglers are Mithu Kumar (25) and Amar Kumar Singh (27). Both the convicted persons hail from Bhagalpur District of Bihar.
The West District Special NDPS Court pronounced the verdict on Saturday. Public prosecutor Biswajit Deb conducted the case on behalf of the Government.
Mithu Kumar and Amar Kumar Singh were nabbed at Badharghat Rail station with 33 kg dry ganja on February 13, 2021. Inspector Mantu Ranjan Das submitted charge sheets in the Court against the duo.
The verdict will send a stern warning message to the ganja smugglers, opined Public Prosecutor Biswajit Deb.
