Tripura BJP requested Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to increase the interest rate of deposits and especially MIS of the senior citizens.

The Union Finance Minister held a virtual pre-budget meeting with BJP representatives of 25 states on Sunday to get the feedback for preparation of the Union Budget. The BJP of the state was represented by a team of experts who included Dr. Kiran Sankar Chakraborty, Dr. Sujit Deb, Dr. Poonam Mukherjee and Dr. Sayan Saha while the Union Minister was accompanied by BJP vice-president Baijayant Panda, party’s national spokesman Gopal Krishna Agarwal and Arun Singh.

The BJP Tripura during the discussion requested Sitharaman to consider a fillip in the rubber-based industries of the state and also to strengthen trade opportunities with South East Asia via Bangladesh.

During the discussions, employment, infrastructure development, tourism and health related issues have been given highest priority.

Besides, the expert team proposed to strengthen the trade with South East Asia via Bangladesh by utilizing the geographical presence of Tripura.

In view of the import-export trade, the need for speedy completion of Agartala- Akhaura rail link project and development of the tourism sector with a focus on natural beauty, historic spots and pilgrimages were highlighted. The employment possibilities of such sectors were discussed.

The discussions also included the need for setting up an AIIMS-like hospital in the state and possibility of health tourism.

Meanwhile, the Budget Session of the Parliament is scheduled to start from January 31 next while the Union Budget would be presented in the House on February 1.

Prior to the meeting with the Finance Minister the experts held discussions with BJP state president Dr. Manik Saha to finalize the demands.

The Union Finance Minister assured that she would look into the proposals received from various states and take initiative in these regards.
