Tension prevailed in Fakirdola village in bordering town Sonamura as four persons were injured including a BSF constable in violent between the border guards and the villagers on Sunday. The clash took place when the border guards sought to prevent a cow slaughter in the open by the road side by the villagers.
The villagers blocked Sonamura-Boxanagar Highway protesting against BSF highhandedness and sought immediate action against the personnel.
It all started when a BSF patrol party noticed a cow was being slaughtered by the road side out in the open. The troopers went to the villagers and asked them not to kill the cow in the open road side. The villagers took offence to this and said the cow was being slaughtered for a function where beef would be needed. This led to hot altercation and at a point of time the BSF resorted to lathi charge. The villagers also gathered retaliated violently. In the ensuing clash a BSF jawan and three villagers including a woman were injured. The jawan was admitted in the Sonamura hospital.
Later the villagers –also from the neighbouring areas gathered and gheraoed the BSF BOP and also staged a road blockade
One of the BSF jawans sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at Sonamura Hospital. Villagers claimed that baton wielding BSF jawans left at least three persons including a woman wounded Boxanagar-Sonamura Road. As tension ran high, police along with TSR and BSF jawans were deployed in the area. BSF officials from the Gokulnagar HQ rushed to the spot and attempted to hold discussion with the villagers.
Officials said tension was there but the situation was well under control.
