West Tripura MP and Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhoumik, announced the distribution of text and reference books to a total of 70 schools and 5 colleges under the West Tripura Lok Sabha Constituency. An allocation of Rs 20.75 lakh from the MP fund will be utilized for this purpose.
In the initial phase, Bhoumik distributed books to 9 schools during a program held at Pragati School in the state capital on Thursday. The event was attended by various dignitaries including the Principal of Pragati School, Anwesha Debbarma, local Corporator Abhishek Dutta, and members of the School Management Committee.
Emphasizing the significance of books, Bhoumik remarked that despite modernization and digitalization, the value of reading remains unchanged. She likened a good book to a person’s best friend.
Highlighting the initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led government in advancing the education sector, Bhoumik noted the significant improvements seen not only in Tripura but across the nation. She cited infrastructure development and various schemes aimed at reducing school dropout rates, particularly among girl students who now have increased opportunities for higher education.
Expressing her delight in utilizing the MP fund to procure books for students, Bhoumik stressed the importance of reading and encouraged students to enhance their knowledge across all sectors.
Apart from the 70 schools, Bhoumik mentioned that 5 colleges including Women’s College, Ramthakur College, Udaipur College, Belonia College, and Sonamura College will also receive book distributions.
In conclusion, Bhoumik appealed to students to cultivate a habit of reading in order to broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding across various fields of knowledge.
