The Minister for Agriculture, Ratanlal Nath, laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art agricultural produce market in Teliamura on Thursday, marking a significant step towards modernising the region’s agricultural infrastructure.

The proposed facility, with an estimated cost of Rs. 6.40 crore, aims to facilitate local farmers in selling their produce nationwide through the e-platform of the eBusiness System.

The event saw the presence of key dignitaries, including Chief Whip of Tripura Legislative Assembly, Kalyani Saha Roy, and Chairman of Teliamura Municipal Council, Rupak Sarkar, underscoring the importance of the initiative for the region’s agricultural community. The Agriculture Director, Saradindu Chowdhury, and other officials from the agriculture department also graced the occasion.

Minister Nath reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of farmers, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to double farmers’ income. He emphasized the introduction of various schemes aimed at bolstering the financial well-being of farmers, with the new market poised to play a pivotal role in achieving this goal.

Local MLA Kalyani Saha Roy expressed that the new facility would fulfil the longstanding demands of farmers and traders in Teliamura. She emphasized that the multi-dimensional building would not only benefit farmers but also enhance the overall aesthetics of Teliamura city.

The proposed agri-produce market is expected to play a pivotal role in connecting farmers with a broader market, boosting agricultural trade, and contributing to the economic development of the region. The government’s initiatives reflect its dedication to the welfare of farmers and the growth of the agricultural sector in Tripura.
