The 76th anniversary of the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi was observed at Gandhi Ashram in Noakhali and Jamalpur on Tuesday, 30 January. The Chairmen of the Gandhi Ashram Trust, Noakhali Jibon Kanai Dash and other trustees paid rich tributes to Gandhiji on his 76th death anniversary.

 

In the evening, the Gandhi Ashram Trust organised a discussion on the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in the contemporary world at the Liberation War Museum, Dhaka. After discussion, there was a screening of a documentary film directed by Ramesh Sharma, ‘Ahimsha Gandhi- The Power of the Powerless’. Members of the Trust, local political leaders, representatives of local administration as well as civil society and academia joined the interaction.

To pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Bangladesh-Bharat Sampreeti Parishad and Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) jointly observed Martyr’s day at IGCC, Dhaka. In the discussion eminent speakers from dhaka shared their views and thoughts based on Gandhian philosophy. The meeting was presided over by Padmshri Kazi Sazzad Ali Zahir.

At Jamalpur Gandhi Ashram, floral tributes were paid on the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi in which children also took part. A discussion was also organised on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Veteran Gandhian Nurjahan Begum was the chief guest on the occasion. Trustee Hamidul Haque, Hillol Sarkar and local media persons were present on the occasion.
