
In a significant development for Tripura’s tourism sector, former captain of the Indian Cricket team, Sourav Ganguly, has assumed the role of brand ambassador for Tripura tourism. The announcement was made during an Exchange of Agreement ceremony at Ujjayanta Palace, where Ganguly expressed optimism about elevating the state’s tourism to new heights.
The Minister for Tourism, Sushanta Chowdhury, welcomed Ganguly, emphasizing the state’s untapped potential in the tourism sector. He expressed confidence that under Ganguly’s leadership, Tripura tourism would witness unprecedented growth. Chowdhury lauded Ganguly’s prompt acceptance of the ambassadorial role, highlighting the cricketer as the pride of the country.
Ganguly, in a subsequent press conference at Ujjayanta Palace, conveyed his satisfaction with being nominated as the brand ambassador. Reflecting on his first visit to Tripura in 1988, Ganguly expressed the honor of representing the state’s tourism after 35 years. He extended gratitude to Chief Minister Professor (Dr) Manik Saha and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury for entrusting him with this responsibility.
During the press conference, Ganguly spoke highly of Agartala, describing it as a beautiful city with a rich history and culture. He expressed enthusiasm about showcasing Tripura’s beauty to the world and assured his commitment to the task.
Notably, Ganguly’s involvement extends beyond tourism, as he pledged to contribute to the development of cricket in the state. Citing cricket as an emotion in India, Ganguly acknowledged Tripura’s progress in the sport and expressed hope for hosting significant cricket tournaments in the state. He emphasized the completion of an under-construction cricket stadium for this purpose and highlighted his intent to leverage his cricket experience for the benefit of Tripura cricket.
Drawing parallels between Bengal and Tripura, Ganguly noted the similarities in language and culture, expressing joy in collaborating with the state.
The visit included a courtesy call to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, where various topics, including the development of Tripura cricket, were discussed. The Chief Minister urged Ganguly to extend his support for both tourism and cricket development in the state.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, Tripura Cricket Association president Tapan Lodh, Tourism Department Secretary UK Chakma, Director Tapan Kumar Das, and other dignitaries were present during the program, highlighting the collective effort to propel Tripura’s tourism and cricket to new heights under Sourav Ganguly’s ambassadorship.
