Tripura government, under Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, is taking steps to promote sustainable farming practices by involving women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the state. The initiative, named ‘Drone Didi Yojana,’ was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim of training women in operating drones for agricultural purposes.

Minister Nath expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for this initiative, highlighting that providing drones to women in SHGs for agricultural use is a significant move toward ensuring sustainable and technologically advanced farming practices, with a focus on empowering women in the sector.

Nath provided a specific example during his visit to an orange farming land at Killa, where the difficulty in spraying medicine on orange trees prompted the idea of training women in SHGs to operate drones for spraying purposes.

Additionally, Minister Nath participated in the XXVI Meeting of ICAR Regional Committee – III, held in virtual mode from Krishi Bhawan at Agartala. During this meeting, he shared the outcomes and discussed various demands placed before the Centre to support the agriculture sector in Tripura. One key proposal is the merger of Tripura’s Agriculture College with the Central Agricultural University at Imphal, with the expectation that it would benefit students in conducting research.

The minister also emphasized other demands, such as enhancing the production of mushrooms and different varieties of strawberries, promoting guava cultivation, boosting mango production, and increasing the production of international flowers. These initiatives aim to uplift the agriculture sector in Tripura and contribute to its overall growth and sustainability.
