Two journalists Samriddhi Sakunia and Swarna Jha  who had been arrested in Tripura on charges of spreading fake news and communal hatred were granted bail on Monday by the court. However, they would have to report to Kakraban police station on Tuesday.

The two journalists were detained in Nilambazar area in South Assam as they were trying to leave the region when police sent a look out. They were arrested in connection with some controversial reports following an FIR in the Kakraban police station After they were brought to Tripura from Assam they were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Gomati district who granted them bail.
Senior lawyer Pijush Kanti Biswas stood for them who in his submission said, there was nothing like attempt to spread ‘communal hatred’ in their write ups  .
He also submitted that the sections the police charged the journalists are ‘baseless’ and FIR contents do not constitute any such offence.
Sources said, the two journalists might now move the Supreme Court for quashing the FIRs against them.
