Youth survives critical injuries after emergency surgery at Agartala Government Medical College. Advanced trauma care and rapid medical response save life, highlighting improved healthcare infrastructure and emergency surgical capabilities under Chief Minister Manik Saha’s health initiatives in Tripura.
In a remarkable demonstration of advanced emergency healthcare, a 24-year-old youth narrowly escaped death after undergoing a critical life-saving surgery at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital. The swift medical response highlights the growing capabilities of trauma care infrastructure in the state.
The victim, identified as Pradip Debbarma, a resident of Debipur in Mohanpur, sustained severe injuries in a road accident on the morning of April 11. Initially rushed to Hezamara Primary Health Centre, his condition rapidly deteriorated, prompting an urgent referral to the Agartala-based medical college hospital.
Upon arrival, doctors from the Emergency Medicine Department acted immediately to stabilize the patient. Given the critical nature of his injuries, a decision was taken to perform an emergency life-saving surgical procedure without delay. This operation is being recognized as one of the first major interventions under the newly introduced emergency surgery facility at the hospital.
The surgical procedure was conducted under the supervision of Dr Nilotpala Chakma, Professor and Unit Head of the General Surgery Department. The multidisciplinary team included Dr Pritam Das, Dr Sourav Das, Dr Abirami PP, and Dr Bhupendra Kumar. Anaesthesia support was provided by Dr Anindita Debnath and Dr Jiniya Debnath, along with a dedicated operation theatre team.
Hospital authorities confirmed that the successful surgery reflects the impact of recently upgraded emergency healthcare services. The introduction of advanced trauma care and surgical readiness is part of a broader initiative led by Manik Saha, who also oversees the state’s health portfolio. Officials described the development as a significant milestone in strengthening Tripura’s medical infrastructure.
Doctors reported that the patient is now stable and recovering under close medical supervision. The timely intervention, combined with coordinated teamwork among medical professionals, played a crucial role in saving his life.
Family members of the patient expressed deep gratitude to the doctors and healthcare staff for their prompt and dedicated efforts. They credited the hospital’s upgraded facilities for giving the young man a second chance at life.
