A tragic road accident in Haryana claims the life of Tripura’s young doctor Dr. Nilotpal Bhowmik, an MD Biochemistry student at BPS Government Medical College, Khanpur. The fatal motorcycle crash has shocked the medical community and residents of Kalyanpur.
A promising young doctor from Tripura lost his life in a devastating road accident in Haryana, sending shockwaves through the medical fraternity and his hometown community. Dr. Nilotpal Bhowmik, a native of Kalyanpur in Khowai district, died late on the night of March 4 after the motorcycle he was travelling on crashed into a tree with great force.
Dr. Bhowmik was pursuing his MD in Biochemistry at BPS Government Medical College and was reportedly just three months away from completing the course. His sudden demise has left family members, friends, and colleagues deeply saddened.
According to reports, the accident occurred while Dr. Bhowmik was returning to his residence after attending Holi celebrations with fellow students. He was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by a recently married classmate from South India. The vehicle reportedly went out of control while they were travelling on a road near the campus area.
The motorcycle eventually rammed into a roadside tree with tremendous impact. Both riders were thrown onto the road due to the force of the collision. Authorities later confirmed that neither of them was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The severe head injuries sustained during the crash proved fatal, and both individuals died on the spot.
Dr. Bhowmik hailed originally from Bateka village in Kalyanpur under Khowai district. However, his family currently resides in the Badharghat area of Agartala. News of the tragic incident reached Tripura on Thursday, leaving residents and relatives in grief.
From an early age, Dr. Bhowmik was known as a bright and dedicated student. He completed his Higher Secondary education in 2013 from Sri Krishna Mission School, where teachers remember him as disciplined, hardworking, and academically gifted.
He later pursued his medical studies at Tripura Medical College and successfully completed his MBBS degree in 2018. After finishing his medical graduation, he began his professional journey at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, where he worked as a young medical professional.
Driven by a passion for medical research and higher education, Dr. Bhowmik enrolled in the MD Biochemistry program at BPS Government Medical College in 2023. Colleagues and professors described him as an enthusiastic learner who was deeply committed to his studies and future career in medicine.
The tragic loss has been widely mourned across Tripura, particularly in his hometown of Kalyanpur. Members of the Kalyanpuriyan Social Organisation expressed profound grief over his untimely death.
The organisation’s secretary, Dr. Tapas Kumar Sarkar, stated that the state has lost not only a son of Kalyanpur but also a promising doctor who had a bright future ahead in the medical field.
Local residents and well-wishers have also expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. Many said Dr. Bhowmik’s journey from a small town in Tripura to pursuing advanced medical education in Haryana was an inspiration to young students across the region.

His sudden death has once again raised concerns about road safety and the importance of wearing helmets while riding motorcycles.
Dr. Bhowmik’s untimely passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him, and he will be remembered as a dedicated doctor whose life and career were cut tragically short.
