West Bengal Assembly Elections: 1,920 Security Companies to Be Deployed in Phases

In West Bengal, to ensure free, fair, and peaceful upcoming Assembly Elections, approximately 1,920 companies comprising CAPF, armed forces of other states, and Indian Reserve Battalions will be deployed in phases. Out of this total, 300 companies of the CAPF are scheduled to arrive by March 31. This follows the 480 companies already stationed in the state to boost voter confidence and maintain law and order, bringing the total strength to 780 companies upon their arrival.
 
Following a meeting of the Joint Force Deployment Committee, chaired by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Agarwal yesterday, a final roadmap for deployment has been established. According to a press statement from the CEO’s office, the highest allocation of 60 companies will be deployed in Kolkata, followed by 48 companies in Purba Medinipur. Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate will receive the lowest allocation of 11 companies. The meeting was attended by Special Police Observer N.K. Mishra and State Police Nodal Officer, ADG (Legal) Anand Kumar. Additionally, the CEO’s office held a coordination meeting with departmental nodal officers regarding the distribution of forms for absent voters engaged in essential services.
