An eminent maxillofacial surgeon and a renowned sportsman in his own time Dr Manik Saha , when it comes to political statement as a BJP president is always a man of few words. However, when he prefers to break the silence , the doctor turned politician speaks with confidence.
“We are going to pull off spectacular wins in the Urban body elections, have no doubt on it”, said Dr Saha as he met the media- which is also rare- after meeting with BJP functionaries in Kamalpur and Ambassa. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the political priorities to chalk out poll strategies for the party.
He finds his confidence on the fact that, according to him the state government had taken several ‘pro-people initiatives which directly helped the citizens.
“The electors will give mandate in our favour because of the state government’s development activities and our constant touch with the people”, he asserted.
On the issues relating to candidates, the BJP president indicated that some new and ‘clean’ faces would be fielded in the civic body elections this time—and there may also be some surprieses.
Dr Saha said, proposals were sought from the ground level. The proposals will include three names and the final decision would be taken by BJP state committee following a thorough scrutiny.
“The finalisation of the candidates’ list is state committee’s prerogative”, he said.
Dr Saha’s visit was a part of ruling BJP’s poll preparations which it started before other parties. The poll campaign had already begun with Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb spearheading it and going out almost everyday meeting people and holding rallies. In Dhalai
