Labour department, Government of Tripura has constituted wages committees under Section 5 of the Minimum Wages Act 1948, under the chairmanship of MLA Sambhulal Chakma for revising the basic rate of wages for the notified 20 schedule employments presently existing in the state.

The committee shall propose the revised basic rate of wages on the existing basic minimum wage under Section 4 of the Minimum Wages Act 1948. The committee has been comprised of the independent persons and the representatives of employers, and employees’ of the schedule employments.

After receiving the recommendation on the revision of basic minimum rate of wages from the wage committees, state will examine the proposed revision of basic minimum rate of wages and will issue final notification of Revised Minimum Wages for 20 schedule employments by September, 2022.

In the meantime a high-level meeting was organized at the Secretariat regarding the publication of the seventh economic census report.

Secretary of Finance Department Brijesh Pandey presided over the meeting which was held on Monday.

Besides Urban development secretary Kiran Gitte, secretary Agriculture department Apurba Roy, IGP Arindam Nath, DMs of eight districts of Tripura and other senior officials remained present at the meeting.

According to preliminary data from Seventh Economic Census, there are 489,995 small, medium and family-centric enterprises in the state in which about 7,84,671 people are employed.

According to the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, Government of India, Tripura is the only state in the country that completed the work of the seventh Economic census through a digital platform.
