Voting in the by-elections for five assembly seats across four states Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, and West Bengal  has concluded peacefully. In Gujarat, Visavadar seat has recorded over 54 percent voter turnout, while the Kadi assembly constituency has registered over 54 percent till 5 PM. Nilambur seat in Kerala has recorded around 70 percent voter turnout and Punjab’s Ludhiana assembly seat has witnessed around 49 percent. The voting percentage for the Kaliganj Assembly seat in West Bengal was over 69 percent till 5 PM. The counting of votes for all five seats will take place on Monday.
The bye-polls held in five assembly constituencies witnessed the successful implementation of several major new initiatives. These include the provision of mobile deposit facility for the electors at all polling stations, and upgraded voter turnout sharing mechanism.  The upgraded voter turnout sharing process was also successfully implemented, where the Presiding Officer of each polling station was able to directly enter voter turnout on the new ECINET App every two hours on polling day. This helped in reducing the time lag in the updation of the approximate polling trends.
