In a recent incident at the Bairabtila Anganwadi Centre in Gamaibari Panchayat, under Teliamura, angry villagers locked the center in protest against an alleged scam related to the recruitment of a Helper. The situation escalated when the villagers assaulted the Upa-Pradhan and the booth president of the ruling party.
Two years ago, the permanent helper of the Bairabtila Anganwadi Centre had resigned due to illness. At that time, the ruling party’s Gamaibari Panchayat had made a decision to allow Anamika Kapali Bhowmik to work as the helper and assured her a permanent appointment letter when a new helper was appointed in the future. The Panchayat and Booth Committee also promised to recommend her for the position. Anamika had been working at the Anganwadi Centre without pay for the past two years based on these assurances.
However, contrary to the promises made, a person named Sima Sarkar arrived at the Anganwadi Centre with an appointment letter, which angered Anamika and the villagers supporting her. They locked the center in protest against the perceived injustice towards Anamika.
During the protest, the Upa-Pradhan, Prasenjit Malakar, and booth president, Narayan Sarkar, happened to pass by and were confronted by the angry villagers. The villagers alleged that Malakar and Sarkar had accepted money in exchange for giving the job to Sima Sarkar, thereby depriving Anamika of her rightful appointment.
The police arrived at the scene, and the Upa-Pradhan and booth president managed to escape. Subsequently, officials from the sub-divisional administration arrived and held talks with the villagers. The officials assured them that Anamika Kapali Bhowmik would be recruited as the Helper of the Anganwadi Centre. Following this assurance, the villagers unlocked the center.
