In Tamil Nadu, the stalwart of the AIADMK Party, K.A.Sengottaiyan, who resigned from his MLA post yesterday, has now joined the Tamilaga Vetri Kalagam, the party founded by actor politician Vijay. The 77-year-old veteran politician has been appointed as the Chief Organiser of the TVK party.
Sengottaiyan, who has spent five decades in AIADMK, was expelled from his party this October. He was elected from the Gobichettipalayam Assembly constituency in 2021. KAS, as he is affectionately called, and an ardent supporter of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Sengottaiyan was removed from all party responsibilities as Organisation Secretary and District Secretary Erode (Rural West) since September this year. Beginning his political career in the 1970s, firstly as a Panchayat President of Kullampalayam in Coimbatore, he was later elected as MLA for the Sathyamangalam constituency in 1977 and also served as Minister in the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s cabinet multiple times. Political experts say that his arrival at TVK is expected to give a boost to the party, which lacks experience in Tamil Nadu politics as elections are due next year.
