Veteran actor and producer Dheeraj Kumar passed away in Mumbai this morning. He was 79. Mr. Kumar was suffering from acute pneumonia and was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where he breathed his last. His last rites are expected to be held tomorrow. Dheeraj Kumar’s five decade long journey in the entertainment industry began as a finalist in a 1965 talent contest that also featured superstar Rajesh Khanna and filmmaker Subhash Ghai. He went on to act in several Hindi and Punjabi films, beginning with the 1970 film “Raaton Ka Raja”. He followed it up with supporting roles in movies such as “Roti Kapada Aur Makaan”, “Sargam” and “Kranti”.
