Uttarakhand is poised to set a new record this year by planting over 5 lakh saplings across the state on 16th of this month to mark the Harela festival.
Of these, 3 lakh saplings will be planted in the Garhwal region and 2 lakh in Kumaon.
This year’s festival will be celebrated with the themes “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and “Harela Ka Tyohar Manao, Dharti Maa Ka Rin Chukao.” Various programs will be organized later this month as part of this campaign.
Following Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s directive, efforts are underway to ensure active participation of villagers, students, and government departments.
Plantation drives will be conducted in public spaces, forests, along rivers, educational institutions, departmental campuses, and residential areas.
The previous record of planting 2 lakh saplings in a single day, set in July 2016, is expected to be surpassed this time.
