Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today advocated using alternative materials, innovative waste-to-wealth technology, and best practices to enhance quality, accelerate construction, and reduce project costs. He was speaking at the International Seminar on Advances in Bridges today. He said that the Digital Management System in project clearances will speed up the necessary approvals.
The use of segregated municipal waste, ash, plastic, rubber, and bamboo in road construction, as well as precast structures in the construction of bridges, can minimize construction costs and speed up the process. The minister said that initiatives are being taken to reduce logistics costs and emphasized that good highways and mass transit systems, including electric vehicles and clean energy, can further lower these costs. The seminar was jointly organized by the Indian Roads Congress, PIARC, and the PWD department of the Government of Karnataka.
