Minister of State for Tribal Welfare Durgadas Uikey visited Unakoti district and interacted with women Self-Help Groups under Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission. He reviewed SHG-led enterprises, encouraged rural entrepreneurs, and highlighted the growing role of women-led businesses in strengthening livelihoods, self-reliance, and rural economic development.
Minister of State for Tribal Welfare Durgadas Uikey visited Unakoti district on Friday and interacted with women Self-Help Group (SHG) members nurtured under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), highlighting the significant role of women-led enterprises in transforming rural livelihoods and promoting self-reliance across the state.
During his visit, Uikey toured several key facilities established under the rural livelihood initiative. He inspected the Agarbatti Manufacturing Unit located at South Unakoti Village Committee area and later visited the District Level Aggregation Centre-cum-Selling Outlet operating under the Kumarghat Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU). The visit provided an opportunity for the Minister to directly engage with women entrepreneurs who have successfully established income-generating activities through SHG platforms.
Interacting with the SHG members, popularly known as “SHG Didis,” Uikey enquired about their day-to-day operations, production processes, marketing strategies, and the challenges they face while managing their enterprises. The women shared their experiences of becoming financially independent through various livelihood activities supported by TRLM and discussed how their businesses have contributed to improving household incomes and community welfare.
Officials accompanying the Minister emphasized that such interactions help strengthen confidence among rural entrepreneurs and encourage greater participation in livelihood initiatives. The visit also showcased the growing success of women-led enterprises in rural Tripura, where SHGs are increasingly emerging as important contributors to local economic development.
In a symbolic gesture reflecting the achievements of the SHG movement, the District Magistrate and Collector of Unakoti presented Uikey with a gift hamper comprising locally produced items crafted by women SHG members. The presentation highlighted the quality and diversity of products being manufactured by rural entrepreneurs and underscored their contribution to the local economy.
Government officials noted that the Minister’s visit served as a major morale booster for SHG members and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting grassroots entrepreneurship. The interaction further demonstrated how initiatives under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission are empowering women, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, and strengthening economic resilience in rural communities.
