A fatal road accident on the Kanchanpur–Jampui National Highway killed two men and injured another after a motorcycle lost control at high speed. Police launched an investigation as locals demand stronger road safety measures.

Two persons were killed and another seriously injured after a speeding motorcycle skidded off the Kanchanpur–Jampui National Highway on Thursday afternoon. The tragic accident took place between Water Point and 9 Kilo village under the Vanghmun police station area around 3.45 pm, creating panic among locals and commuters who witnessed the aftermath.

According to police, a Splendor motorcycle bearing registration number TR 05D 7479 with three riders lost control while moving at high speed, leading to a fatal crash on a sharp stretch of the road. The impact was so severe that two of the riders died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Bimal Sabdakar (32), son of late Sudhir Sabdakar of Urichhera, Subhashnagar under Kanchanpur police station, and Biswajit Das (40) of Urichhera, who was serving as a Special Police Officer (SPO) posted at the SDPO Office in Kanchanpur. Both victims reportedly succumbed to multiple injuries sustained during the fall.

The third rider, Pradip Sabdakar (29), son of late Subhas Sabdakar of Urichhera, Subhashnagar, survived the crash but received serious injuries. He was immediately rescued by personnel from the Kanchanpur Fire Service, who rushed him to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Kanchanpur. His condition was stated to be critical at the time of reporting.

Preliminary investigation by the police indicates that the motorcycle was travelling at an unsafe speed, which likely caused the rider to lose control on the hilly section of the national highway. The stretch is known for sharp turns, making overspeeding particularly risky.

Authorities have launched a detailed probe to ascertain the exact sequence of events and determine whether any additional factors such as road conditions, mechanical failure, or negligence contributed to the accident. Police have also urged commuters to exercise caution on the route, especially during afternoon hours when visibility and heat contribute to slippery road conditions.

The sudden deaths of the two men, including a serving SPO, have cast a pall of gloom over Urichhera village, where the community is mourning the tragic loss. Local residents have appealed for increased road safety measures, including speed monitoring and warning signage, to prevent such accidents in the future.
