In a significant development, local police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at the Agartala Railway Station apprehended two individuals on Thursday in possession of a substantial quantity of gold ornaments. The arrests were made during a routine luggage inspection at the station, leading to the discovery of a significant cache of gold.

According to one of the police officials involved in the operation, “During the routine luggage check at the railway station, we detained two individuals—one hailing from Gujarat and the other from Silchar. They were found in possession of approximately 7.5 kilograms of gold ornaments, with an estimated market value of at least Rs 4 Crore.”

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the detained individuals are businessmen engaged in the trade of gold ornaments, supplying various jewelry shops across different states. They had arrived in Agartala on September 17th for business purposes.

While the detainees were able to produce proper documentation for the gold ornaments, further verification of the authenticity of the items was deemed necessary. As a result, the individuals were handed over to the Customs department for further investigation and scrutiny.

. The Customs department will now conduct a thorough examination to ensure compliance with legal regulations and ascertain the legitimate origin of the gold ornaments.
